DECATUR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL FOR EXCELLENCE – RENOVATIONS

Indianapolis, IN

AT A GLANCE:
  • Renovations to the Facade of a Historic School Building (1932)
  • Interior Renovations to Create Flexible Spaces for Blended Learning Communities
  • 65,000 SF of Blended Learning Space from a Used Building

PROJECT DETAILS:

The original Decatur Township High School had failed into a state of disrepair. The building was unoccupied and an eyesore for the community. School buildings affect the quality of education, and they play a critical role in a community’s development and quality of life. MSD Decatur Township turned to LANCER + BEEBE with the question, “Renovate or Replace?” The LANCER + BEEBE team created 3D graphic images to show how the existing school could be renovated to 21st Century Standards. First, the building envelope was addressed stop water penetration with new roofing and waterproofing. The exterior brick and limestone was cleaned and sealed. New windows were installed. Next, the interior classrooms were renovated to flexible learning spaces for Blended Learning Communities. New State of the Art technology was designed to provide superior opportunities for audio and visual learning. LANCER + BEEBE helped MSD Decatur Township to achieve their educational programming needs at a fraction of the cost of a new school building and preserved piece of the community’s history.
